Two vintage films

Made by David S Percy of the NBA Film Unit for European Architectural Heritage Year in 1975, Hampstead Garden Suburb is a documentary celebrating the history of one of the first garden suburbs. The production includes extensive aerial photography of the area and features the history, architecture, planning and community life of Hampstead Garden Suburb over 70 years. Presented by local residents Timothy Neal and narrated by Sir Donald Sinden CBE, FRSA.

Much of the appeal of this confusing but fascinating amateur film is a gloriously camp performance by its writer, Evelyn Waugh.  Filming took place at Hampstead Heath, Golders Green, and the Waugh family's Hampstead back garden in the summer of 1924. Evelyn Waugh was confirmed at St Jude's in 1916. Read more in the Vicar's "A Totally Preposterous Parson".
